Tips For Choosing PHOTOS for JEWELRY
DO NOT CROP YOUR PHOTO IN ANY WAY! We can't emphasize that enough. We need the extra background at the top and sides of the photo to make your necklace or keychain look its best. (See example)

Also, please don't choose a photo that is so close-up that part of the top of the head or side of the face is already cropped off.

Choose clear, sharp pics. Yes, Photoshop can make any photo sharper, but it can't turn a blurry picture into a clear one. This is especially important when shrinking down your photo to jewelry size. (By the way, there is a pic on our main jewelry page that shows the size of our items compared to a US quarter.)

Choose well-lit photos. The pic should be bright (but not so bright that the subject's features are washed out). Avoid back-lit photos, where the light source is behind the person or animal, leaving the subject's features dark and deeply shadowed.

We can't use wide shots of groups of people or full length (entire body) photos, because the faces would be too small and unrecognizable, when reduced in size.

We are happy to accept photos for oval necklaces or keychains that contain 2 people, as long as their FACES ARE CLOSE TOGETHER (see example). Pick a photo where the subjects are side-by-side, right next to each other, or very close, with one person in the back and the other in the front. That way, we can compose your item to fit both of them in.

If using an old photo, it might work better if you take a picture of it with a camera, than if you scan it. That's because many old photos have texture in the paper on which they are printed. A sensitive scanner can pick up the texture and incorporate it into the scan. If using a cell phone or digital camera, turn off the flash, and photograph it in a well lit room, with steady hands.

If you are undecided about which photo will work for your jewelry items, we encourage you to email us multiple images for evaluation. We'll let you know which one will look best. Make sure you indicate the order of your preference, so we can focus first on whether or not we can use your favorite.
