- The majority of couples (approximately 80%) choose to have their wedding in a church or synagogue.
- There are about 114,000 weddings that take place in Las Vegas, Nevada every year. But that's not the most popular city in the world for weddings. The city that takes first place is Istanbul, Turkey, with annual nuptials at approximately 166,000.
- Most, but not all, brides-to-be receive a diamond engagement ring (almost 25% do not).
- Weddings are big business. The wedding industry takes in about 72 billion dollars a year in the United States. The average cost of an American wedding is $26,400. The average cost for the wedding gown alone is $800.
- How about wedding guests? The average amount of invited guests is 175. The typical amount a guest spends on a wedding present for the couple is between $70 - $100.
- Although most brides change their last name to their husband's, almost 40% of brides say they will be keeping their own last name.
- About 30% or so of people getting married each year have been married before.
- Almost 99% of couples take a honeymoon after the wedding.
